Sweater (with SEPARATING zipper) is DONE!
Mistakes I Made:
1. Gauge VERY off, resulting in sweater TOO small.
2. Added garter stitch center panel to offset size. HORRIBLE IDEA!
3. Ripped out panel and zipper (which was NOT separating...duh) and threw in garbage. Very angry.
4. Cried. Got good ideas from knitting group. None panned out well. Still does not fit. Bought new zipper...added in. Grandma will have a newly knitted sweater for birthday in April.

Oh hun, I'm so sorry to hear about your sweater woes... but if its any consolation, it is GORGEOUS and I know your Grandma is going to look stunning in it (you'll have to post pics)! Can't wait to see the one you make for yourself now!
See now in my world if it didn't fit anyone I would just wear it when I didn't have to zip it.

Oh Gina, I'm so sorry the sweater doesn't fit! It's absolutely lovely and your Grandma will love it. That must make it a little easier to take.
I made the same damn mistake with the zipper; bought the non-separating kind first too :)

Well, at least it is going to a worthy recipient. The Mandy will look amazing on you -- great pinks. Hey, I bet you get THAT one done b4 me too! lol And you did need some friggin' knittin' for the podcast! (ducking last you hit me...ouch! lol) (btw -- I have a surprise for you!) :)
If you had not mentioned a thing, I would have thought the sweater perfect. It is perfect. Perfect for your grandma. She's gonna look hip, cause that's not a grandma sweater;)
What a lucky grandma! What is the name of the pattern that you made? I hate installing zippers or button bands, cutting steeks, finishing, etc. I'd rather just knit.
I would have given up on that sweater! Good on you for finishing it for a lovely gift for your grandmother.
