I'm Short...AGAIN!

No, I'm not talking about my height....although this is a topic Ian LOVES to talk about daily (or sometimes, to my utter frustration, hourly!)...my short-ness, I mean...(yes, I'm only 5'1...maybe 5'2" after yoga), but...no...it's about my SWEATER...or, in fact, Ian's SWEATER.

Today, I found myself faced with this:

Yes....it's looks nice...the sweater LOOKS done, doesn't it? Nice & thick, lanolin-y, 100% wool, great pattern, quick knit and very handsome color...cornflower, I think.

But, look CLOSER....

Yes, you ARE seeing correctly. The last arm is not QUITE done....I am less than 5 rounds (with very few stitches per round) away from completion. This is most certainly NOT "ribbed for her pleasure"...that's for sure! (5 ribbed rounds, my ass!)

Wanna see something else? (god, it's horrifying)...

THIS is the amount of yarn I have left over. About 6 inches. W....T....F?????!!!!!

Now, if you know me, you know that this is not very surprising....I am CONSTANTLY running out of yarn for projects. Constantly. (we will not rehash the "Booga Bag" incident, will we? Need I mention this....Donna, Laurin, or Ericka? Ugh.

Sooooo....my question to myself was...what are my options?

A. Rip out 1/2 the stitches from the other sleeve...thereby making both ribbed edges the same length, but also giving me extra yarn to do both.

B. Rip out some of the bottom of the sweater ribbing to add to the ribbed sleeve edge.

C. Rip out the WHOLE DAMN sweater and chaulk it up as a learning experience (kinda drastic)

D. Leave it shorter than the other...it's only 1 inch, right?

E. Go buy another skein of yarn from Joanne's "A Knitter's Garden" shop tomorrow.

NOW...my question to all of you wonderful, sweet knitters is....

WHAT DID I DO???????

P.S. (winner announced on this week's podcast)

Did you undo part of the ribbing on the bottom of the sweater and use that?
How frustrating! The sweater is gorgeous though.

Oh no! How frustrating. I think I would do A. I hope you didn't rip the whole sweater; that's more than drastic, it's just plain crazy. The sweater looks great though; lovely color.

Are you freaking kidding me? Go to Joanne's and get another skein, please do not rip out that sweater! I can't take it!

P.S. I hate you for finishing a sweater so fast.

I say "D" and tell Ian to just keep the arm that's in the sleeve that's longer BENT and the one that's shorter STRAIGHT and it will alllll even out. Hear me Ian?!? Bend your arm buddy! :)
Geez Gina, this sweater is TESTING you that's for sure! Teasingly asking "Are you insane yet?"

Oh, and another thing, that sweater is gorgeous!

Bitch for a long time... then go buy another skein at Joanne's and finish it off "right." Then take the rest of the skein and knit Ian a matching hat ... or better yet, knit yourself a matching hat! :-)

I'm w/ Jackie and Nichole -- get another skein and get it done right -- you'll never be satisfied otherwise. Hey, the universe was just providing fadder for "Friggin' Knittin'" in the next Podcast, right? I say make yourself a beautiful felted bag from the rest of the skien -- you deserve it!

Gripe on how you should have bought another skein, then go and do it. Oh wait... It looks like others have already beaten me to the punch! Well, still go do it!! :)

I know I would be in search of another skein, but i am just sensitive that way (being somewhat taller, longer armed and just generally bigger than the average bear). Good luck - great color, by the way! - KVL

You went out and bought another ball-I would have because I can't stand to run out of yarn and too much yarn is not a bad thing.

I would have opted for B as you can always add a nice border as it would be better to be a shorta** than to look like your wife just thought you were short of an inch in the arms. Or on the other hand, make them both shorter and give himk some really outrageously colourful shirt that he can show the cuffs off with. Either way, its going to be an original soft, lovely spun sweater that has been lovingly knit, short or long, depends how image conscious the guy is !

O.K. I'm starting to think there is a "curse of the husband sweater"! I'm with the other gals on getting another skien OR could do a contrasting color edge if you have a yarn in your stash that would work...

BTW I STILL love the sweater. It is beautiful. (Ooops! Handsome. I meant handsome! - gotta be careful of vocab. around those manly types. :-D)

Don't frog it, it's too beautiful! If you can easily pick up another skein of matching yarn then I think that's the way to go.
